A Beautiful Weekend

This past weekend was a pretty busy one. The weather was beautiful so that was a plus. I started my weekend off on Saturday morning very early. I woke up around 6:00 and took a shower and made some breakfast. Turkey season is opening this coming Saturday so I was going to some of our land to listen for turkeys so I could try and pinpoint where that big gobbler was that I will be hunting on opening day. I drove to our hunting land and as it broke daylight the woods started coming alive.       I heard multiple turkeys that morning so it made me feel good about this coming season. After I finished listening for turkeys I went to another piece of property and checked my trail cameras that I have had out for the past few months to see what had been coming through. Well my morning got even better as I started looking through the pictures. I had multiple gobblers on three different cameras. After I finished checking cameras and doing a little scouting I went back home to get on the tractor to do a little bush-hogging. It was about lunch or a little after when I finished up bush-hogging and one of my dad’s friends pulled up in our driveway. He had been turkey hunting in Alabama that morning and had killed a pretty good turkey. Alabama’s season always opens a week before Georgia’s season, so he decided he would go get a jump on everyone else. We talked about his hunt and congratulated him and then cleaned the bird. As we were cleaning the turkey, we decided we were going to have a cookout that afternoon. My dad’s friend and his wife were going to join us and my girlfriend was coming too. My mom was also keeping my 4 month old twin first cousins so she had her hands full. My dad and I did all of the cooking since my mom was busy babysitting. We sliced the wild turkey breast and marinated it in dales sauce and wrapped it in bacon and cooked it on the grill along with pork chops and chicken. We also had a number of sides to go along with the meat. Our meal was delicious that night; afterwards we wrapped up the long day by playing a few games of cornhole. Sunday morning we went to church and afterwards had a delicious lunch. After lunch I had to work on my granpa’s truck and change a few parts out for him. The rest of the day was spent working on my little truck, which happens to be finished and ready to start driving more and saving me some gas! Over all it was a great weekend spent with friends and family and beautiful weather, I can’t wait for many more!
